Termite invasion, phase two

The termites are gone, they have been sprayed into oblivion, but for several weeks now I have been living with a largish square hole in the wall of my basement. With the arrival of colder weather, the hole has proved to be quite a disadvantage as we are now heating the ground under the house.
DH has also been leaving the basement bathroom window open about six inches when he showers, too, because we don’t have a fan and we are growing nice mold cultures. In short the basement is cold, moldy and full of holes.
This weekend DSs brothers came to repair the hole.
They came and did the work for free, out of the goodness of their hearts, or because they wanted to leave town for a couple of days or something.
You get what you pay for.
The hole is now covered with drywall. The crown molding has been replaced. By the way, miter cuts are not easy, not easy at all. Now all we have to do is mud and sand, mud and sand, mud and sand for a week or so before we prime, paint and clean sawdust out of everything in the basement.
Did I mention my computer, laundry, and scrap room are in the basement?
I am so over this termite business.

There are times when it would be nice to call the landlord to fix things. Growing up sucks. I hope this will solve some of your problems. We have tha same thing in our bathrooms, so exaust fans. We leave the window open a crack and run a little ceramic heater when we are in there. It is connected to the light switch so as long as everyone remembers to turn the lights off all is well, if, as is Achlee's habit, the light gets left on the bathroom gets very warm. We are getting one with a thermostat and hopefully all will be well. What would be really nice is a remodel including a fan, but I don't think it will happen very soon. Good luck with your fix-ups.

Entropie or however it is spelled is a terrable thing. Houses just insist on getting old and rundown. I'm glad it's improving.
