Pity the praise hog

I got a wild hair and decided to try to put together five layouts for the Making Memories Masters competition.
This is a big event. Scrappers from around the world compete for the MMM in hopes of landing a lovely prize package and a chance to work for Making Memories magazine for a year.
I basically have a snowballs chance to win. But I thought I’d give it a shot anyway because I need another reason to bang my head against the wall.
I came up with what I thought were brilliant ideas for layouts while hanging around the pool in St. George last week. I took some photos, did some sketches, bought a few items of chipboard, and even collected some red blow sand for one of the ideas.
But I am vastly disappointed in how the page turned out. If I wasn’t making it for MMM, no doubt I would be pleased, but I just don’t think it is a prize winning page.
I finished up a second page today. I’m a little happier with it, but again, I don’t think it’s going to win prizes.
Perhaps the most frustrating thing about it is I can’t post my pages ~ if I did I would be disqualified.
I still have about a month to come up with some prize winners. The contest doesn’t close until the end of July. But I’m just not seeing myself doing my best work.
Now if I hadn’t posted the Djin in the flowers page, or a couple other pages I really like, I might be able to use them.
Alas, I’m a praise hog,

Here is praise for the praise hog (aren't we all. Other wise we wouldn't have blogs now would we?) Your worst effort would blow away my best effort every time.

I know exactly how you're feeling - knowing that you're making them for the competition puts on a whole lot of pressure and a much higher expectation on yourself then normal. The thing is, WHO KNOWS what the judges are going to go for? Be true to yourself, design the pages for you and enter them. If they don't win at least you have the satisfaction of knowing that you tried, and you can post them for all the praise you can handle! I'm sure that they're brilliant, just like everything else you do ;) (but Good Luck anyway! I hope we ALL win)

I love the layers and the red sand texture. The white dots remind we of a video I show to the 3rd graders when we study the Southwest Indians, the video shows a little Pueblo family getting ready to do the eagle dance, and the grandfather is painting the little boys faces. The dancer tells that the red paint represents the earth and the white dots represent the people on the earth.
Their culture is so rich in such an inhospitable place, It is amazing how they flourished in the desert. There is more to study about the Southwest Tribes than any other, because they are very diverse even in the same geographical area, and they have such an artistic diversity. Arts develop when people have time for them, it's amazing they had time when it's so hard to even find enough to eat there. Wow1 who knew a little paper artistically arranged could set off so much hot air! The point is it did, so you must be pretty good! Go with your gut! It usually leads you in the right direction.

Not sure how I found your blog but alas I did and I loved that you called yourself a praise hog. I mean really, aren't we all? Good luck with the MMM competition. I'm sure your pages are worthy!
