Fashion baby steps

My photo of the Day was taken yesterday after church while I was in the kitchen cooking Sunday dinner. I looked in the living room and noticed how the light hit my heels and I was impressed by the shape of the silhouette.
I realize this is my second blog entry about shoes. One would get the impression I care about my footwear, which is completely untrue, you can ask anyone in my family. The state of my clothing is about as important to me as the state of the moon phases is to your average career woman. I just don’t care.
But through a series of events I have come to the dawning realization that my clothing choice may not matter to me, but it does have an impact on how people view me. So I have reluctantly started to put some thought into what I wear.
My Sunday shoes are a prime example.
Long ago, before I married and started having babies I wore heels. I’m a reasonably tall woman, but I liked heels because they made my legs look better.
Then I married, became pregnant and started carting around a baby. The heels became shorter until I ended up wearing something rather like a black slipper.
My last pair of Sunday slippers was in a sorry state. The sole was beginning to remove itself from the shoe, and my children entertained themselves through the church meeting by flipping the souls and watching them bounce back to the shoe.
Then one day it dawned on me.
My husband is 6’4”. I could wear stilts and he would still be taller than I am.
My youngest child is seven. I’m no longer hauling him around in my arms.
I can wear heels.
So the other day I went out and bought a pair from Payless. Granted, they are not the most pricy, fashionable or even interesting pair of Sunday shoes on the planet. But it is one step forward into the fashion world.

Love your blog entry... funny how your shoes can tell a lot about you, eh? The stage of life you're in... the kind of work you do... the colours you like... I think you should scrap this! :)

As mom of Karen, so called by a friend of Karen, I have to scratch my head about her shoe (dare I say) fetish. She certainly didn't get it from me. I am related to Mom of Adam and Logan, and thus have the same uh size problem. I love any shoe that fits and is comfortable. I must admit heels don't fit in that category. I love the photos. The shoes look as if they are about to get away. Run little shoes run!
